Abstract: 

Open repositories have emerged as a useful tool to disseminate the intellectual output of an institution. In this sense, Brazilian universities have implemented repository as a way to increase the visibility of authors and institutions.In Brazil, the use of repositories started in 2002, first with repositories for theses and dissertations, later, from 2008, with institutional repositories, with more varied collection.Thus, this study presents information about the academic open access repositories in Brazil, in order to outline a scenario on the use of repositories in the academic environment in Brazil, revealing trends, such as the use of institutional repositories, that despite the recent trend, already offers more than 400,000 full-text documents.
